When it comes to depression help, you have a few conventional options. You could take antidepressant medications. Or you might consider some sort of therapy to talk your way out of being depressed. The basic problem is that we've been trained to believe practically from birth that feelings are no good. With very little, if any, value. Feelings are bad and wrong and you shouldn't even have them.
So you learn at a very early age to start shutting down your emotions. You repress them; you suppress them; you depress them; you do whatever you have to do to not feel them. You learn how to control and manage your feelings.
Just so you won't have to feel them. But you also block your aliveness and your power when you refuse to feel your feelings. Your very vitality is linked to your emotions. Emotions are life. And shutting them down deadens you .
And then you reach a tipping point where you fall off the cliff and down into an ugly dark pit of depression. And this is when you find yourself in dire need of help. Life becomes hopeless and very scary and you find no reason to live. Considering your very source of aliveness has been swept away.
That's the problem. Depression is a deadening feeling of darkness and despair since you have shut down your feelings. That's what a lack of feelings feels like.
Some will object, and proclaim they do feel their feelings. They're always feeling them. And they hurt really bad. That's why I try not to feel them. And there's the problem, I would say.
First you shut down your emotions just a little, but it does not help. So then you shut them down more. But that still does not help, so you shut them down even more. And this goes on until you fall off that cliff.
The answer, the way to get some depression help, is to first understand this situation. While you may believe it's your feelings which are causing the problem, I'm declaring it's the complete opposite. Depression comes from shutting down your emotions. Period. It can be no other way.
You can start turning things around if you will simply be willing to feel each and every feeling that comes up, even the darkness and despair. This isn't the complete answer, obviously, but it is a critical initial step. What's important to understand here is that you can turn this around. You don't have to stay depressed.
You've got a fabulous self correcting mechanism within you right now, and if you will just turn to it, you can begin to heal. And it doesn't involve talk therapy or drugs either.
