Therefore, we learn early on to stuff down our feelings. You repress them and suppress them and depress them; whatever it takes. You learn how to manage and control your feelings.
Just so you won't have to feel them. But you also block your power and your aliveness when you refuse to feel your feelings. Your very vitality is linked to your emotions. Emotions are the source of life. And shutting them down deadens you .
And then when it reaches a certain point it's like you fall off a cliff and right into a deep dark hole of depression. And then you're really in need of some depression help. Your life becomes hopeless and very scary and you can't find a reason to live. Due to the fact your very source of aliveness has been swept away.
This is the dilemma. Depression becomes a dead feeling of darkness and despair because you cut off your feelings. That's what it feels like to not have feelings.
But some will proclaim they do feel their feelings. They feel them all the time. And they hurt really bad. That's why you do all you can not to feel them. And there's the problem, I would say.
Initially you close down your emotions a little, however it does not help. So you shut them down some more. And when that doesn't help, you shut them down even more still. And this goes on until you fall off that cliff.
The answer to all this is to get some clarity of the situation. You think your emotions are what caused the problem in the first place, and I am saying that the depression arises from shutting down your emotions. Period. It can be no other way.
You can start turning things around if you will just be willing to feel each and every feeling which comes up, even the despair and darkness. This isn't the complete answer, of course, but it is a necessary initial step. The critical point to understand is that it can be turned around. You don't have to stay depressed.
You've got a powerful self correcting mechanism inside you right now, and you can start healing if you'll just turn to it. And it doesn't involve talk therapy or drugs either.
